Congratulations to Damon Taylor, a senior at Spoon River Valley High School, who was awarded
first place in this year’s 17th District Congressional Arts Competition. Taylor’s artwork, entitled “Reflection of Abandon,” will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
The contest, which was held on March 29 at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, included 79 entries from across the 17th District. Taylor has been invited to Washington DC on June 25 to meet with Hare and attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for winners from around the country.
The following runner-ups will have their artwork featured in each of Hare’s offices.
Second place: Kristi Knisley, Senior, Nauvoo-Calusa High School
Third place: Lauren DuBay, Junior, Kewanee High School
Fourth place: Kristi Knisley, Senior, Nauvoo-Calusa High School
Fifth place: Damon Taylor, Senior, Spoon River Valley High School
Sixth place: Kristi Knisley, Senior, Nauvoo-Calusa High School
Hare offered special thanks to judges Susan Wahlmann, Performing Arts & Education Director at Quad-City Arts in Rock Island, Lisa Mohr, an art instructor at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, and Kevin Mercer, a sophomore art major at Western Illinois University.
